The UN Watch requested the assistance of the Parliamentary Forum for Democracy to help collecting signatures for a public opposition to the candidacy of the Russian Federation, China, Vietnam and Saudi Arabia for seats in the Human Rights Council of the UN.

Again, the credibility of the UN is a stake. We remember when Muammar al-Gaddafi’s Libya was chairing the Human Rights Committee in the UN, and it’s devastating impact on the UN's credibility. This was part of the reason that the Human Right Committee was reorganized under the name of Human Right Council. Now, if these countries will be elected to the Human Rights Council, the UN would create a similar blow.

The PFD is proud to report now that 22 out of 38 signatories were recruited by or affiliated with the Parliamentary Forum for Democracy!
